LED modules are typically rated for about 100,000 hours before they drop to half brightness — more than 10 years of round-the-clock use on paper. In practice, a well-installed, maintained screen in the UAE usually gives 8–10+ years of good service. Power supplies, fans and the odd module wear out first, and they can be replaced individually.
What wears out first
- Power supplies — the most common part to replace, especially in hot cabinets.
- Cooling fans in outdoor cabinets and structures.
- Individual LED modules — a few dead pixels or a dim tile, swapped in minutes.
- Data cables and connectors exposed to heat and vibration.
What shortens a screen’s life in the UAE
- Running at full brightness all the time — most screens look great at 40–70% indoors.
- Poor ventilation behind the screen, which traps heat.
- Dust building up on outdoor modules and inside cabinets.
- Unstable power — voltage spikes damage power supplies and receiving cards.
- No spare modules from the same production batch, so repairs do not match in colour.
How to make it last longer
- Use automatic brightness (a light sensor) and switch off or dim after hours.
- Plan ventilation or air conditioning for outdoor structures from day one.
- Keep 2–5% spare modules from the same batch.
- Book a maintenance visit at least twice a year for outdoor screens.
- Use surge protection and a stable power supply.
